How to Pack for Your 4WD Adventure

If you’re planning on renting a 4WD for your Kiwi holiday, give yourself a pat on the back – you’ve already taken one step in the right direction. New Zealand is best seen off the beaten track and an all-wheel vehicle is a necessary way to travel the backwoods with ease.

Next step: what on earth to pack?! Almost as important as renting the right vehicle is packing the right stuff, so here’s our guide on what to bring along for your 4WD adventure.

Food Equipment

Driving a 4WD around the country gives you the opportunity to cook for yourself wherever you are – whether you are tramping, camping, sight-seeing or skiing. Make sure to stock up with the right food-related equipment including:

  • Pots, pans and cooking utensils
  • Cups, bowls, plates and cutlery
  • Portable table and chairs
  • Chilly bin and ice packs
  • Transportable BBQ cooker

Sleeping

If you are taking your 4WD rental vehicle camping, make sure you are set up with the bare minimum sleep requirements – most importantly, a sleeping bag!

Gear

You’d never forget your snowboard, but have you left snow pants behind? Do you have your hiking boots, head lamp, enough water and wet-weather gear? Walk through a day in the life of your 4WD adventure in your mind to make sure you’ve remembered all the appropriate gear.

Cleaning

We can get so excited about the doing that we forget another important but admittedly boring part of all-wheel vehicle travel – cleaning. Make sure to pack the basics…

  • Dish soap and brush
  • Body wash, hand soap and sanitiser
  • Laundry bag
  • Rubbish bags

Entertainment

If you’ve still got room, pack a little bit of fun! An iPod, deck of cards and travel games will go a long way to creating memorable nights during your 4WD hire experience.
